Charles H. Diekman, 87, of,
Monroe, one-time president of.
Monroe's Coca-Cola Bottling Co.,,
who died at 10:40 pm. Sunday at
Toledo Hospital, Toledo. He had
been seriously ill for three weeks.

Born March 27, 1913, in Monroe,
he was the son of Casper and
Leona (Fix) Diekman. He married’
Carol E. (Guettler) Maurer April

left the company in 1942, when he
enlisted in the Army and returned
when he was discharged nr 1946,
‘That year, he succeeded his father’
as president, a title he held until-
retiring in 1976.

 

 

In 1978, he received the Coca-
Cola Pioneer and Leader award:
from Detroit Coca-Cola Bottling
Co. in recognition of his many'
years of service.

He served in the Army durin
World War Il, April 8, 1942, until
Jan. 14, 1946, He served as a tech"
nical sergeant in the European:
‘theater of operations. He took part
in the Battle of the Bulge and’
earned the European-African-
Middle Eastern theater ribbon
with three battle stars and the,
Rifle Marksmanship badge. >

He was a member of Monro¢!
Club; Carl F Payson. Post 60,’
American’ Legion; “St. Mary’
Catholic Church; Biks Ciub, ani
‘Monroe Golf and Country Club,’
He enjoyed golfing. :

Surviving are his wife; a son,
Robert H. Maurer of Alexandria,
Va.; five daughters, Mrs. Michael
(Heidi C.) Burroughs, Mrs. David
(Shelly E.) Hehl and Mrs, Charles
(Andrea K.) Wineland, all of
Monroe, Mrs. Michael (Carla Ai)
Miller “of Ann Arbor
Gretchen L. Maurer of Virginia:
two sisters, Ethlyn Dansard ‘of
Hastings and June Kuhns \
Cleveland, Ohio, and nine grani
children.
