Monroe's Coca-Cola Bottling Co.,, who died at 10:40 pm. Sunday at Toledo Hospital, Toledo. He had been seriously ill for three weeks. Friends _ may =; call from 5 to 9 pm. Wednesday at Rupp __ Funeral Home. He will lie in state from 10 until services at 11 a.m, Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Charles Fischer, Mr, | Diekman's nephew and pa: for of St. Rose Catholic Churety’ Hastings, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, under the auspices of Monroe Post 1138, Veterans of Foreign Wars. i Born March 27, 1913, in Monroe, he was the son of Casper and Leona (Fix) Diekman. He married’ Carol E. (Guettler) Maurer April 30, 1983, at St. Mary Catholic Pedy Blekmee Botting Works, which, since 1916, had bottle Coca-Cola and other soft drink: and distributed Stroh beer on. Monroe St., near the River Raisin, and later on E, Front St. He became vice-president of the com pany, which, in 1938, becam« ‘Montoe Coca-Cola Bottling Co. He’ left the company in 1942, when he enlisted in the Army and returned when he was discharged nr 1946, ‘That year, he succeeded his father’ as president, a title he held until- retiring in 1976. In 1978, he received the Coca- Cola Pioneer and Leader award: from Detroit Coca-Cola Bottling Co. in recognition of his many' years of service. He served in the Army durin World War Il, April 8, 1942, until Jan. 14, 1946, He served as a tech" nical sergeant in the European: ‘theater of operations. He took part in the Battle of the Bulge and’ earned the European-African- Middle Eastern theater ribbon with three battle stars and the, Rifle Marksmanship badge. > He was a member of Monro¢!
