A J aay John E. Egan Sept. 5,.1919-Dec. 25, 1998 ROCKWOOD — John E. Egan, 79, of Rockwood died at 10:30 p.m. Friday in Heritage Oak- wood Hospital, Taylor. He had been ill for a year and seriously ill for a month. Friends may call from 3 to 9 tonight in the Ford Chapel of the Allore Martenson Funeral Home. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral home and. at 10 in St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Thomas Sauter, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in Michigan Memorial Park, Flat Rock. Graveside veterans services will be conducted under the auspices of Down River Honor Guard. Born Sept. 5, 1919, in Monroe, he was the son of George and Mary (Bondy) Egan. He married Sylvia Rose Longhway in 1946. She died July 2, 1963. He mar- ried Ruby Gildersleeve Sept. 9, 1964. He was employed by Detroit Edison Co. as a coal operator for 35 years before retiring in 1981. He served in the Army during World War II. ; Mr. Egan was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Rock of Gibraltar Post 4230, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Huron Val- ley Aerie 3732, Fraternal Order of Eagles. In addition to his wife,heis | survived by two sons, JohnEgan | of Monroe and Dennis Gilder- | sleeve of New Port Richey, Fla.; | a daughter, Mrs. Bob (Joan) Roe of Carleton; two sisters, Ms. Lynn Leege of Woodhaven and | Mrs. Ed (Hazel) Machinski of Romulus; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Merle, and a sister, Marv Smith. |
