Evening News, Fri., June 27, 1997 ‘DEATH Raphael Gaynier LAPEER — Raphael (Ray) Gaynier, 58, of Lapeer, formerly of Monroe, died Wednesday at his home. ee. Friends may call at the Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer, where the rosary will be recited at 7 tonight. Services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lapeer, with the Rev. Douglas Terrien officiating. Burial will be in Mount Loretto Cemetery, Lapeer. Born Aug. 21, 1938, in Monroe, he was the son of Doras and Mar- cella (Steckmeyer) Gaynier. He was married on July 31, 1965, to Mary E. Barton in Newport. They had lived in Lapeer for 29 years. Mr. Gaynier was employed as the director of environmental health in Lapeer for 29 years, retiring in April. He was a member of the MEHA, MALEHA, SEME- HD and NEHA, all professional organizations. He attended Michigan State University and the University of Toledo. He received his bachelor of science degree from Ferris State College, Big Rapids, and his master’s degree from the Universi- ty of Michigan, Ann Arbor. — He also was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Kiwanis. He also had assisted in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Surviving are his wife; his moth- ‘er of Monroe; two sons, Douglas of Royal Oak and Robert of Lapeer; a brother, George of Mon- roe; and three sisters, Mrs. Clif- ford (Adeline) Geiman and Mts. Art (Rosemary) Wiere, both of Monroe, and Mrs. Rudy (Marie) Fojtik of Holland, Mich. He was preceded in death by his father.
