She passed away June 30 a{ Monroe Mercy Hospital, where she had been confined for nearly two weeks, and with her passing goes another era in Flat Rock history. . She was born March 29, 1867, in Ypsilanti, the daughter of Cor- nelius and Fannie Munger. She came to Flat Rock two years ‘Mater with her family and attend i, ' school in. Flat Rock. “>In 1875 her father founded Munger’s General Store on the east side of Detroit near Erie St. In 1885 the store was moved to its present location on the corner of Detroit St. and Arsen- al Rd., and now houses Roy Lee’s Barber Shop. ae It was there that the first loaf of commercial baked bread. and cakes were sold in Flat Rock, ! and the first telephone between! Detroit and Toledo was installed. in the store. Mrs, Hamer helped to serve as |many as six generations in a family in the store.
