Hess, 91, a long-time Maybee area resi- dent who was active at St. Joseph Catholic Church, died at 3:45 a.m. Saturday in Beach Nursing Home after suffering a stroke, She had been in the nursing home two weeks, but since 1994 had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Dean (Shirley) Saum-~of»Mon- Friends may 9 p.m. Monday at the Liedel Funeral Home, Maybee, where the rosary will HAZEL M. HESS | be recited at 7 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held at | 10a.m, Tuesday at the funeral | home and at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday | at St. Joseph Catholic Church, ' Maybee. The Rev. Michael D. Malawy of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, May- bee, : Born Sept. 5, 1907, in Rais- inville Township, she was the daughter of Lee and Josephine (Weisbecker) Younglove. She married Clement W. Hess on Oct. 27, 1925, in’ St: Joseph Catholic Church, Maybee. He died Nov. 6, 1987. A homemaker, she was a life- | long area resident, a life mem- ber of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a member of its Christ- ian Ladies Sodality, and a mem- ber of the St. Anne Guild. She also was one of the founding members of the Maybee Senior Citizens, and she and her hus- band were elected queen and king of the 1973 Maybee Centen- nial. Surviving are two sons, Joseph of LaSalle and Herbert of Fort Myers, Fla.; six daugh- ters, Rosella Mazur, Mrs. Robert (Loretta) Aubry, Mrs. Dean (Shirley) Saum, Mrs. James (Mary Ann) Riehle, all of Mon- roe, and Mrs. Richard (Norma Lee) Thomas of Royal Oak and Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) LaPrad of Westerville, Ohio; two broth- ers, Earl of Maybee and Arnold of Monroe; a sister, Annabelle Boznak of Monroe; 32 grand- children, 41 great-grandchil- dren, and two great-great-grand- children. ; She was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Norman.
