Alfred Matthew Kornowshi Aug. 22, 1923 ~ Oct. 29, 2002 FLAT ROCK — Former Flat Rock Police Chief Alfred Matthew Kornowski, 79, of Flat Rock died Tuesday at his home. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at Arthur Bobcean Funeral Home’s Flat Rock Chapel. Services will be at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home and 10:30 at St. Roch Catholic Church. The Rey. Richard A. Hartmann, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in Michigan Memorial Park, Huron Township, with graveside ser- vices under the auspices of the Downriver Veterans Honor Guard. Born Aug. 22, 1923, in Detroit, he was the son of~ John Matthew and Blanche (Trojanowicz) Kornowski. He married Hilda May Valko June. 12, 1948, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Carleton. She died _ March 18,2001. { He had lived in Flat Rock for 52 years. Mr. Kornowski retired as chief of police in 1978 for health reasons. He started working at the police depart- ment in February, 1951, and Was appointed police chief Jan. 1, 1969, He served in the Army dur- ing World War II in North Africa and Italy. He was a member of Middlestat-Smith Post 337, American Legion. Surviving area son, John of Monroe; two brothers, Donald of Denver and Theodore of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.;a sister, Rosemary Sargent of Lakeworth, Fla.; three grand- children, and a great-grand- child, Memorials may be made to St. Roch Catholic Church.
