Gerald J. Langton March 14, 1931-Nov. 21, 1998 NEWPORT — Gerald J. Lang- ton, 67, of Newport, died at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Wyandotte General Hospital, Wyandotte. He had been ill for one year, seri- ously ill for three months. William Tindall, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery. Born March 14, 1931, in Exeter Township, he was the son of Martin and Margaret (Cum- mings) Langton. He married Betty J. Miracle on Dec. 26, 1953. She died Aug. 18, 1954. He then married Charlotte A. Chinavare on Nov. 5, 1955, at St. Charles. She died Dec. 11, 1993. He was employed 34 years asa hi-lo driver at Benckiser Con- sumer Products in Rockwood, retiring in 1991. He attended St. Charles Grade School in Newport and was an usher and a member of the Dads Athletic Club at the church. A Korean War veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy from Aug. 25, 1950, to June 18, 1954. He was a member of the Berlin Township Volunteer Fire Station No. 1 in Newport; the Newport Firefighters Associa- tion; Rock of Gibraltar Post 4230, Veterans of Foreign Wars; Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion post in Trenton. He enjoyed fishing, cooking and gardening. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Darlene) Shown of Carleton and Linda Langton Hackworth of Erie, Pa.; one sis- ter, Marlene Fowler of Monroe and two grandchildren. In addition to his two wives, he was preceded in death by one stepmother, Viola E. Ochs Langston; newborn twin sons, Herald and Gerald, and one brother, William. a
