Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe, under the auspices of Monroe Post, 1138, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Born Feb. 18, 1924, in Monroe, he was the son of Jerome and Mina (DeCant) LaVigne. He married Anna A. Knaggs on Feb. 20, 1944, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. He owned and operated Carleton Nursery Co. for almost 50 years until retiring in 1995. He previ- ously was employed at Greening Nursery Co., Monroe. He served in the Army during World War II and the Battle of Central Europe earning the rank of technical sergeant from Nov. 6, 1943, to Jan. 30, 1946. He received the victory medal, American The- atre Ribbon, the European, African and Middle Eastern Ribbon with one bronze battle star, two overseas bars and a good conduct medal. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Metro Detroit Landscape Association and the National Federation of Indepen- dent Businessinen. He enjoyed cre- ating stained glass art and was fea- tured in an Evening News Prime Times article in January, 1996. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Calvin W. LaVigne Jr. and Daniel J., both of Carleton; three daugh- ters, Gerry Cseke of Flat Rock, Mrs. Charles (Linda L.) Collert of Carleton and Mrs. Joseph (Laura) . Sancrant of Temperance; a sister, Mrs. Clifton (Dee) Florian Sr. of Monroe; 16 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward and Eugene; a sister, Cecilia St. Bernard, and an infant sibling. Memorials may be made to St. Vincent’s Heart Foundation, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or the church of the donor’s choice. 5
