Ward Giltner
Ward Giltner, born in 1882, was a bacteriologist and headed that department from 1912 to 1923. He became Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and served from 1923 to 1947, during which time he helped develop the Basic College curriculum required for all students. Giltner also helped form the first B.S. program in medical biology in the country. Although the career prospects for veterinary students during Giltner’s time appeared bleak, he was confident that the program could lead to successful careers for its graduates. He passed away in 1950.
