Dena Cederquist
Dena Cederquist was born on September 29, 1910 in Madrid, Iowa. She received her B.S. degree from Iowa State University in 1931, her M.S. degree from Iowa State in 1937, and her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1945. She joined Michigan State College as an assistant professor in the Department of Foods and Nutrition in 1944. She eventually became a full professor, holding that title until 1977, and also served as department chair from 1956 to 1970. Cederquist was known for her lectures and was also known outside the classroom for her WKAR series, “Food and Life.” Among her many accomplishments, Cederquist earned the MSU distinguished faculty award in 1964, the inaugural Outstanding Dietitian Award from the Michigan Dietetics Association in 1967, and was recognized as an American Institute of Nutrition Fellow in 1988. She passed away on November 9, 2007 at the age of 97.
