Alfred K. Chittenden
Alfred K. Chittenden was born in 1879 and went on to become a professor of forestry at Michigan Agricultural College (MAC). Chittenden served as a professor at MAC from 1914 until his death in 1930. Chittenden Hall was named in his honor in 1969. Prior to 1969, the building had been utilized for dairy operations from 1901 to 1912 and then housed the Department of Forestry from 1913 to 1966. Chittenden was known for his research on reforestation and maple sugar, developed a nursery on campus, and played a major role in forming the Michigan Forestry and Park Association.
