Donald J. Bowersox
Donald J. Bowersox, one of the most well-known and influential supply chain management academics in the world, dedicated more than 40 years to Michigan State University as a professor of marketing and supply chain management, and for one year as dean of the College of Business. Bowersox received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Michigan State and then enjoyed the U.S. Air Force as a pilot, achieving the rank of Captain. He returned to MSU to earn his MBA and doctorate in business. In 1966, Bowersox was hired to join the MSU faculty. During his tenure at MSU he is largely credited with increasing the stature of MSU’s supply chain management program into one of the top programs in the country. He wrote 10 textbooks and more than 250 articles on marketing, transportation, and logistics. In 2002, he was honored with the first-ever Broad College of Business Lifetime Alumni Achievement Award. Bowersox died on July 4, 2011.
