Georg Borgstrom
Georg Borgstrom was born in Gustav Adolf, Sweden on April 5, 1912. He earned his B.S. in 1932, M.S. in 1933, and doctorate in 1939 from the University of Lund Sweden. He immigrated to the United States in 1956. Borgstrom began his career at Michigan State University in 1966 as a professor of food science and geography. During his career he authored eight books, over one hundred articles, various chapters, and edited two books. Borgstrom was considered a leading expert on the issue of world hunger and the difficulties in providing food for a growing world population. He received the MSU Distinguished Faculty award in 1969 and International Socrates prize in 1968. He concluded his MSU career in 1981. Borgstrom passed away on February 7, 1990 in Goteborg, Sweden.
