Gwen Andrew
Gwen Andrew was born on June 18, 1922 and was a native of Platteville, Wisconsin. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology and a Ph.D. in sociology and philosophy of science from the University of Wisconsin where she also worked with U.S. veterans performing clinical psychological testing. She came to MSU in 1964 as an associate professor in the Social Science Research Bureau. She served as Director of the School of Social Work from 1968 to 1975 and was Dean of the College of Social Science from 1975 to 1989. In these roles Andrew was critical to the development of a curriculum for the social work program. She served as the Acting Dean of Human Ecology, of Nursing, and of Human Health Programs. From 1992 to 1994 she was the Assistant Vice Provost of Human Health Programs. Andrew retired from the university in 1995 and died in 2005.
