Margaret (Peg) Bubolz
Margaret (Peg) Bubolz was born on November 9, 1925 near New York Mills, Minnesota. She received a BA degree in home economics at the University of Minnesota, a MA degree from Cornell, and a PhD in sociology from Purdue. Bubolz joined MSU through the Extension Office in the Upper Peninsula in 1963 and moved to the East Lansing campus in 1965. She served as a professor and then chairperson of the Department of Family and Child Sciences. Bubolz developed an ecological model for families that was widely applied, with her research focusing on family stress and quality of life issues. After her retirement in 1991, she wrote "Home Economics to Human Ecology: 100 Years at Michigan State University" and "Beatrice Paolucci: Shaping Destiny Through Everyday Life." In 2005, Bubolz received the MSU Alumni Association’s Honorary Alumni Award in recognition of her years of service and numerous accomplishments as part of MSU’s community of scholars. She passed away on February 4, 2012.
