GREENKEEPERS CLUB OF NEW ENGLAND NEWSLETTER June, 1943 The May meeting of the Greenkeepers Club of New England was held at the Woodland. Golf Club. A fine luncheon was served at 1 o'clock. Turf conditions were discussed informally and between showers, 4 teams played a scotch match of 9 holes with President Swans on of Woodland participating. It was announced that the Annual John Shanahan Memorial Tournament between Professional-Greenkeeper teams would be held July 12th at the Brae Burn Country Club, Letters which were read at the meeting from Jack Counsel proved that Jack is his usual self and we expect to see him soon at our meetings. The June Meeting will be held at the Ponkapoag Golf Club, Canton on Monday, June 7th. The 0, P. A. has informed us that if our meeting is primarily for business reasons we are entitled to drive to it. Inspection of the Pie-Green should be of valuable assistance in the selection of grasses for war time maintenance. The United States Golf Association has requested that we rate these various grasses at this time, This is the proposed time schedule for the meeting: 1:30 2:30 6:30 Inspection and rating of the experimental green, Detailed inspection of the new 18 holes. Formal business meeting. After the business meeting a supper will be available for those who desire it. You cannot afford to miss this meeting!
