Greenkeepers Club of New England N E W S L E T T ER NOVEMBER, ¡944 Note—Date of meeting, October 30, 1944. This Newsletter will serve as notice. "The Lord gave us two ends; one to sit on and one to think with. Success is determined by which end we use the most—heads you win, tails you lose."—Anon. The divot diggers department of the Greenkeepers Club assembled at the Salem Country Club October 2nd to compete for the 1944 club championship. The customary elbow bending (with Java) was followed by a short business meeting. It was voted to send a Christmas package to each of our members serving in the armed forces. Mail has been returned from Albert Zikorus and we have been informed that he is a prisoner of war in Germany. There was a fine turnout at the meeting, nineteen members making the long trip to Salem. An unbiased opinion of the golf course cannot be given because it was your correspondent's home pasture. Arthur "Champ" Cody won the Club Championship with a very respectable 80, which included a 2 stroke penalty, i.e., a newspaper 78. Gene Mauro copped the first net prize with a 71. Ralph Thomas and Bud Hayden tied for 2nd net and Ralph won the toss for 2nd place with Bud taking 3rd net. Howard Farrant and Steve Hannon finished neck and neck for the 4th net and Howard called the toss correctly to snare the last prize. The scores: Out In Gross Hdcp.
