| I Greenkeepers Club of New England I NEWSLETTER j JANUARY, 1946 Self-confidence is the first requisite to human greatness.—Anon. The December meeting was held at the Waltham Field Station and the boys received a warm reception from Professor Ray Koon. The Field Station would be an ideal place for our winter meetings if public transportation was available. The majority of the members present felt that the winter meetings should be held in Boston which could be reached by train or bus if weather conditions made automobile driving hazardous. Mr. Fred Joyce, who has returned to his former position of Park Foreman with the M. D. C., gave a very interesting talk about his experiences while serving as a Lieutenant with a Naval Construction Battalion in the Aleutian Islands and the South Pacific. Mr. Clifford L. Hunt was elected as an associate member of the Club. The report of the Nominating Committee was accepted as published in the December Newsletter. There was some discussion about maintenance equipment, especially in regard to the merits of different types of sprayers. The Annual Meeting will be held January 7, 1946 at Steuben's on Boylston St., at the corner of Tremont St. in Boston. There will be election of officers for 1946 and the reports of officers and committees for the past year. The business meeting is scheduled to start at 4:00 P. M. and arrangements have been made to have dinner at $2.50 a plate about 6:00 P. M., so that you can enjoy the early floor show. This will be a stag affair, but your committee is planning to have a Ladies Nite later in the year, probably in the early part of April. Harold Mosher, the entertainment committee chairman, is working on an Educational Program for our winter meetings. He expects, to obtain Dr. O. J. Noer and Dr. Fred Grau, both outstanding men on turf problems, as speakers in the near future. David Barry and Albert Zikorus, have divested their uniforms and invested in civies. "The traps on this course are very annoying, aren't they?" "Yes, they are, and I wish you would close yours." We'll see you at Steuben's on January 7 th. JACK COUNSELL. |
