x | J Greenkeepers Club of New England NEWSLETTER AUGUST 1947 "Success iis failure turned inside out:—" The monthly meeting was held at the Ludlow Country Club, Ludlow, Mass. Being an open meeting, Greenkeepers from the western section of the State attended, as well as many from the Boston area. A fine luncheon and dinner, was served by the club, which many stayed to attend. We were honored again to have, as our guest, Professor L. S. Dickinson, of the University of Massachusetts. Professor Dickinson took those present on a turf inspection tour and informal discussions were held while viewing the course. Demonstrations of the following machines, was given by the MacGovern Company of Springfield, Mass. Worthington Fairway Unit Worthington Blitzer Whirlwind Bough Cutter (2 models) Jacobson Power Greens Machine Speedy Leaf Cleaner It proved very interesting. Also present was a representative from the F. C. Phillips Co. of Stoughton, Mass., manufacturers of Golf Spikes. Samples of these new type spikes were given to all. Door prizes were donated by the MacGovern Co. of Springfield, Mass. The members wish to extend their appreciation for the fine gifts. Winers were as follows: 1. Professor L. S. Dickinson — University of Mass. 2. John Dombeck — Ludlow Country Club. 3. Arthur E. Anderson — Brae Burn Country Club. 4. Samuel S. Mitchell — Ponkapoag Golf Course. 5. Albert Allen — Kcrnwood Country Club. 6. Anthony J. Sperandio — Framingham Country Club. The remainder of the afternoon was devoted to golf. An unexpected, but pleasing contribution, of twenty dollars was presented to the tournament chairman, by the Ludlow Country Club, to be used for the purchase of additional prizes. O'Grady j. O'Grady 92-15-77 The business meeting was called to order, President Homer Darling presided, the application of Norman S. Barnes, of the Kernwood Country Club to become an associate member, was read, and will be voted upon at the regular meeting. Are you in good standing? Have you paid your 1947 dues? The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 5th, at the Charles River Country Club, West Newton, Mass. This will be the annual chairmen of greens committee and greenkeepers tournament.
