1 Greenkeepers Club of New England NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 1947 fir V * The annual greenkeepers meeting was held January 6, 1947 at Steuben's Vienna Room, Boston, Mass. A fine dinner was served, followed with a very good floor show that was enjoyed by all those present. Vice President, Phillip I. Cassidy, presided in the absence of President Homer C. Darling. The following wire was received from President Darling: "Greetings and a belated Happy New Year to you all, I am sorry I am unable to be present to give my report of the progress of the club in 1946, in person. Increasing membership indicates rejuvenated interest in the Greenkeepers Club of New England. This is our cue for planning an aggressive program for this year: Let's all pull together." John J. Carey, Colonial Club, Lynfield, Mass., was voted in as an associate member. The application of Alfred Edmondson, Myopia Hunt Club, as a regular member was read, and is to be voted upon at the next regular meeting. Tellers were appointed by Vice President Phillip I. Farrant—Edward Murphy Guilford Johnson formerly greenkeeper at the Reservation Golf Club in Mattapoisett is now located at the Waunamotonomy Country Club, in Newport, R. I. The February Meeting is to be held at the Hotel Statler, Monday February 3rd, 1947, at three P.M. Mr. Orrin Smith of New Britain, Conn., Golf Architect and Builder will be the speaker of the day. Mr. Smith has done a lot of work on rehabilitation and redesigning and reconstruction of golf courses since the end of the war. He is a former associate of Donald Ross. A few of the members of the Greenkeepers Club are planning to attend the Turf Conference and Show at the Hotel New Yorker, February 10 - 14.
