cMe ws Lett er NEWSLETTER — FEBRUARY, 1948 The annual meeting was held in the Oak Room, of the Hotel Bradford, Boston, Mass., January 5, 1948. Guest speaker was Mr. Allen H. Wood, Soil-Agronomist. Mr. Wood is in charge of the experimental and testing work for the Hytius Co. His talk, "Other Elements in Turf," was well presented and accepted. Mr. J. A. Morrison, manager of the Convention Bureau, of the Boston Chamber of Commerce, presented an outline of the possibilities in having the next annual G.S.A. National Turf Conference and show here in Boston, Mass. The meeting was called to order by President Homer Barling. acted upon. Routine business was The Treasurer's and Auditing committee reports were read and accepted. The committee for the recognition of the oldest greenskeeper, headed by H. Farrant, reported. The report was referred back to the committee for minor changes that were discussed. The Fund committee headed by Homer Darling reported on his progress, in regards to establishing funds to aid the turf experiments to be conducted at the University of Mass. Cassidy, presented Homer Darling, outgoing president, a gavel, which is the custom of the club to retiring presidents. A reminder that the Greenkeeper National Convention is going to be held at the Hotel Book-Cadillac, Detroit, Michigan, February 9 through 13, 1948. The next meeting will be held at the Hotel Bradford, Monday, February 2, 1948, at 1 P.M. Dr. DeFrance will speak on the results of his experimental plots this past summer, and Dr. Frank L. Howard will speak on Fungicides and turf diseases. Both our speakers are in charge of the turf experimental gardens at the Rhode Island State College which, as you probably know, are second to none in the country. Editor—A. J.
