At the .February meeting, held at the Hotel Bradford, Boston, Massachusetts, Dr. Howard and Dr. DeFrance, of Rhode Island State College, were the guest speakers and presented a report of their developments of fungicides for turf diseases in 1947, weed control, and better turf mixtures. Outstanding Cadmium compounds for control of Dollar Spot, Copper Spot and Pink Patch on their experimental plots were Merks 7R2308 and 7R2312. These compounds will probably not be available this coming season. Other Cadmium compounds of P-177, ERL-F174, ERL-F180 and CC531 gave good results. The latter was ineffective aaginst Copper Spot control. Mercurical compounds of P-641, PMAS and PMA-AA controlled disease and were very effective against Crab-grass. Control of disease with mercuricals, was not effective as with the Cadmium compounds. No definite control measures for Large Brown Patch and Helminthosporium blight were noted. Alternate use of two types of fungicides, were suggested for better control of Copper Spot, Dollar Spot, Pink Patch and Crab-grass. Information about Chlordane for Ant Control may be had by writing to the Rhode Island State College Experimental Station. The following committees were appointed to serve in 1948. To also support it fully and help to raise additional funds from other sources. "Don't Forget" March 11th and 12th. A Turf Conference is to be held at the University of Massachusetts, under the direction of Professor L. S. Dickinson. Jack Counsel was again elected as one of the directors of the G.S.A. Congratulations, "Jack". The G.S.A. voted to hold the 1949 Convention in Los Angeles, California, and the 1950 Convention in Boston, Massachusetts. Here in Boston it will be host to one of the oldest, if not the oldest, organization of Greenkeepers in the country. A number of local members attended the G.S.A. Convention at Detroit. Also note. Many of the members attending had their expenses paid by their club. A wise investment, as it does acquaint the Greenkeeper with new and up-to-date methods in the growing of fine turf. There was a very good showing of members at the last meeting, but not good enough, as all were not present. The next meeting will be held at the Hotel Bradford, Monday, March 1st, at 1:00 P.M. The featured speaker will be Dr. W. S. Eisenmenger, Research Professor of Agronomy at the Univesity of Mass. His topic will be, "Rare Elements" in the nutrition of plants. He will use kodachrome slides and colored pictures. Editor, A. J. Sperandio Assistant Editor, A. Zikorus
