Greenkeepers Club of INew England NEWSLETTER JULY, 1949 N. J. SPERANDIO, Secretary Concord Country Club, Concord, Mass. The June meeting of the Greenskeepers Club of New England was held at the Worcester C. C,, Monday, June 6th. Sam Schiavone is to be congratulated on the excellent condition of his course. There were 32 present and although no equipment demonstration was given, the "Bull" sessions sure ate up the time. Luncheon was at 12:30 noon, and a short business meeting followed. At the business meeting every one was given the opportunity to pay their 1949 dues as Jack Counsell, our worthy Treasurer, was present. John J. Realty, Greenkeeper at the Brookline C, C. was elected an associate member and Carroll F. Hall, Greenkeeper at the Amesbury C. C., was elected a regular member. It was great to see Jack Counsell looking so well and to hear that Mrs. Counsell was improving from her recent illness. In the Golf Tournament that followed, Jack sent a long shot screaming off the first tee and looked as! if he could go 18 holes easy. Twenty members entered the tournament. The winners were: 1st net Steve Hannon 44-42-86-66 2nd net A. J. Sperandio 41-42-83-70 3rd net H. A. Mosher 45-47-92-70 A special Blind Partner tournament was sponsored by the Worcester C. C. for the visiting greenkeepers and this was won by the team of AI Edmondson and Narry Seprandio with a combined net score of 64. Incidentally, Al had a net 68 and Narry a net 69 and is Mike O'Grady happy! The July meeting will be held Monday, July 11 at the Riverside Golf Course in Portland, Maine. Maine that is. Walter Bore is the Greenkeeper and we assure you this is a beautiful golf course and fine test of golf. Many of the fellows are planning on making this an extended weekend trip, visiting friends or the beaches and. attending the meeting on Monday. Let's make this a real outing. Get-to-gether with the fellows at your neighboring clubs and "share the ride". Walter is cooperating with Manny Francis in arranging an interesting equipment show. The non-member greenkeepers in this area are invited to attend. Let's go and meet them, then they will feel at home when they meet us again at the National Turf Conference next February. The Riverside Golf Course: travel U.S. Route 1 to Portland then go north on U.S. Route 302 for about five miles, then look for large golf sign on right side of road. If you can't attend and want to pay your clues, Jack Counsell's address' is 9 Cliff St., Beverly, Mass. Leave early and get there early. LET'S GO!
