Greenkeepers Club of New England w NEWSLETTER I JUNE, 1949 W m (3? The May meeting of the Greenkeepers Club of New England was held Monday, May 2nd, at the Ponkapoag Golf Course with Sam Mitchell as host. This was a bang-up meeting as there were 50 in attendance. The new Worthington tractor was demonstrated by the Sawtelle Brothers and was greeted with enthusiasm. The feature of this tractor hookup is that the fairway mowers are set ahead of all tractor wheels, giving an exceptionally staiooth cut. George Ryan of the Heffener Co. demonstrated the Mow-Master, a hand propelled machine with a power driven cutting blade. The feature of this machine, beside its neatness of cutting in bunkers and inaccessible places for larger equipment, is its lightness; it weighs' only 40 pounds. At a fine luncheon in the Clubhouse the Greenkeepers were welcomed by Capt. J. D. McKinnon of the Blue Hill Div. of the M.D.C. Greenkeepers of the New England area have a nationwide reputation for taking their golf serious so just a list of the winners seems in order as no course record was made. The winners!: 1st gross: John Dombek—82 1st net: Joe Dinardi—73 2nd net: Art Cody—75 3rd net: Phil Cassidy—82 At least Mike O'Grady will have to find a different angle in order to cut a few handicaps. 1 H Let's hope he does not find out who wrote up this copy of the Newsletter. It's all in fun, Mike. The June meeting will be held at the Worcester C. C., Monday, June 6th. We understand that this cours'e is one of the finest tests of golf in the east and in splendid condition. Sam Schiavone must have some big tees up there because he always drives with an iron. Luncheon will be at 12:30 noon followed by the regular featured golf tournament. Manny Francis always has an interesting demonstration of equipment available so in order to see it be there at 11 A.M. At a short business meeting two applications for membership will be voted upon. They are: JOHN J. REALTY, the Country Club, Brookline—associate membership CARROLL F. HALL, Amesbury C. C., regular membership. Worcester C. C. is on Route 110 out of Lincoln Square in Worcester heading toward West Boylston.
