m m Greenkeepers Club of New England NEWSLETTER MARCH, 1949 W The February meeting was held at the Hotel Statler, Boston, Mass Vice President H. A. Mosher presided, due to the absence of President P. I. Cassidy, who is attending the 20th National Turf Conference and Show at Los Angeles, California. The guest speaker, Mr. Walter Meeken of the Consolidated Rendering Co., was unable to be present, but was represented by Mr. Hodges, who gave a very interesting and informative talk on Fertilizer. Following the guest speaker, a business meeting was called. Routine business was acted upon. The 25th anniversary committee reported that plans are being made to make the evening of April 6th a banner night for all greenkeepers and their wives. Dinner, dancing and entertainment highlight the program, which will be held at the Mansion Inn, Cochituate, Mass., on Route 126. Tickets can be obtained from Harold Farrant, or members of the committee. A letter was read from President P. I. Cassidy in acceptance of his election to the office for 1949. From the chair a committee was appointed, consisting of Sam Mitchell, chairman, Arthur Anderson and Arthur Cody, to study the motion of whether to accept dealers as associate club members. It is with regret that we announce the passing of Mr. M. D. Maxwell, former greenkeeper for many years at the Marshfield Country Club. A few of the members are attending the 20th National Convention at Los Angeles, California. At this time I want to call attention to the fine article entitled "Consider The Greenkeeper", written by Fred V. Grau, Director of U. S. G. A. Green section, and Herb Graffis, Editor, Golfdom, appearing in the January issue of Golfdom. This article should be shown to all club officials and persons interested in golf. An excellent program is planned for all attending the annual Turf Conference, to be held at the University of Massachusetts, at Amherst, Mass., March 10,11, and 12. The next regular meeting is to be held at the Hotel Bradford (note the place), Monday, March 7,1949, at 1:00 P.M. sharp. The educational feature will be an hour's program of a new film that Worthington has produced and is bringing east from the scene of the National Convention in time for our March meeting. It consists of shots of the Rough Grass Blitzer in action, and some very interesting shots of their new tractor development which takes all of the mowers ahead of any wheels, which should be very interesting to all Greenkeepers. President Cassidy should also have some interesting comments to make on his trip to Los Angeles, while attending the Convention. ANTHONY J. SPERANDIO, Editor |i
