NEWSLETTER fiflfiL 1950 -mm, It was a house warming at the Waltham Field Station for the Green keepers Club of New England, April 3—or so it seemed. Much to the surprise and admiration of all who attended this meeting they found a grand, new, spic and an span $275,000.00 building just completed and ready for occupancy. There was a brief inspection of the building, then a pleasing lunch was served under the supervision of Manuel Francis from the new, handy kitchen. By the way, you members who were absent, it was all for free—courtesy of the G .C. of N. E. treasury department. Our jovial treasurer okeyed it with hardly a frown. The meeting was held in the spacious 40x60 auditorium and it was quite fitting that our good friend and genial host, Ray Koon, was present to give us a warm welcome and some descriptive details of the new building. The educational features of the meeting were talks by some of our commercial friends. President Harold Mosher, introduced Orville Clapper, Mr. Baldwin and Mr. Shiels of the Joseph Breck and Son, and the SawteUe Brothers. Highlights of the talks were: By Clapper—new effective chemicals for seed treatment and crab grass control nearly ready for marketing—A new U. S. Government Monthly Weather Forecast put out by the U. S. Dept. of Commerce for a nominal sum—Special publications by Dr. Noer on Better Bent Greens and Better Fairways— Milorganite to be scarce this year. Only 60 per cent or less, of normal supply available. By Shiels—that grass seed is likely to remain expensive for some years to come. Blue Grass leading the parade with short crop for past few years and influencing prices on other grass seed. By SawteUe—An interesting discourse and demonstration on Carlon "EF" flexible pipe. Light weight aptly demonstrated by ease of carrying 200 ft., 300 ft., and 400 ft. of two inch, one inch, and three quarter inch pipe respectively. Low installation cost, non freeze, and toughness also clearly shown. At the business meeting which followed, Guy R. Tedesco was voted an associate member. Two applications for associate membership—Henry W. Genthner, Myopia Hunt Club, So. Hamilton, Mass. and Harold Rethman, Pine Meadows Golf Club, Lexington, Mass. were read and will be reported upon at the next meeting. A general and rather lengthy discussion took place on ways and means of raising a substantial sum for research at Amherst. No favorable action was taken. The following committees for 1950 are announced by President Mosher,. COMMITTEES FOR 1950 Welfare: Howard Farrant, Ch., Arthur Cody, Ted Swanson.
