NEWSLETTER The February meeting of the Greenk-eepers Club of New England was held Monday, February 2nd at the Waitham Field Station. Thirty eight members enjoyed a fine catered dinner. It looks as if things are improving as NarrySperandio was one of the door prize winners (h.s first) ! often we have guests In attendance as well as guest speakers and we should show them both every rcspcct and consideration. Let's employ the Go.den Rule "Do unto others as you would have L.em do unto you." Let's impress our guests in the audi.nce by giving the speaker our undivided attention and not try to compete with him. A double feature education program was presented by chairman Tony Sperandio. Mr. Da, id L. Zakon represented the Michigan Peat Company and spoke on the need for peat in building a good top-dressing material as well as incorporating it in the soil mixture. Mr. Zakon cautioned us to Jock for quality and structure in baying our peat material. Some of our speakers come pretty high— let's get our money's worth and make him feel repa.d for his efforts as well. Pat Pasquolucchi of Agrico, presented a fine film narrated by Lowell Thomas showing the pr c:ss of making fertilizer from the raw material and the effect of fertilizer on plant growth. Cbar'ie Parker was welcomed back in the fold and Ra ph Roberts of the Scituate Country Club was elected a member. President Arthur Ccdy appointed the following committees: Welfare—Guy Tedcsio, Joe Oldfield, Albert Allen, chairman Turf Research — Arthur Anderson, Milchcll, H. D. rling, chairman William Publicity-—George Webster, Frank Wilson, Phil Cassi dy, ch. irman Employment — John Latvis, Herbert Johnson, Michael O'Grady, chairman. The opportunity to meet once a month to talk ove" our prob'ems and digress occasionally in good fe'lowship is a great privilege. Quite It has been reported from a usually reliable resource that one of our members has been studying southern grasses and has received a just reward for his efforts. Guy Tedesco the report continues showed proficiency in the Hula! Hula! at a F.orida night spot a short while ago to the extent that he was rewarded first prize. Maybe Gay has beon hitting those drives into the tall grass on purpose. The March meeting will be held on TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24 at the Wa.tham Field Station. Lurch is at 12:30. This meeting is open to members and their guests. The Directors h we advanced the meeting date so that we might hear one of the most pmm'nent turf experts in th- country, Professor H. B. Musser. Professor Musser is attached to the Agronomy Departm:nt of Penn. State College and is editor of the book "Turf Management."
