P r o b a b l y t h e r e h a s n e v e r b e e n a s u m m e r w i t h so m a n y s u c c e s s i v e a n d c o n t i n u o u s d a y s o f 90 d e g r e e t e m p e r a t u r e s a n d n o w t h e c l i m a x w i t h 1 2 - 1 5 i n c h e s of r a i n i n a f e w h o u r s . Here at J u n i p e r , we thought last y e a r s h u r r i c a n e E d n a caused the highest water level ever k n o w n . But last week this high mark was exceeded by 4-5 feet. Our eighth green was six feet under water for three days and the t h i r t e e n t h u n d e r four f e e t . The course h a s b e e n closed for five days u p to t h i s w r i t i n g . B u t t h i s is a l l v e r y t r i v i a l c o m p a r e d t o t h e l o s s o f life and property throughout southern New England, New Jersey and Penns y l v a n i a . M o s t of the b o y s p a s s e d up the t o u r n a m e n t in o r d e r t o r e l a x in t h e s h a d e . B u t a s m a l l g r o u p o f h a r d y s o u l s arranged a mixed scotch tourney, this being ladies' day, and proved they could take i t . The ladies looked fresher than the m e n at the finish l i n e .
