GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENTS NEWSLETTER ASSOCIATION O F N E W JUNE ENGLAND 1955 It was a beautiful day for our June 6, meeting at the Oak Hill Country Club, Fitchburg. Likewise, the entire days program was everything anyone could ask for. A variety of equipment demonstrations and displays—many door prizes a delicious luncheon—warmth and hospitality abounding and a beautiful golf course to enjoy. Tony Sperandio, the spark behind the educational programs, deserves much credit for the outdoor programs he has already promoted. The dealers too, have been most generous in their cooperation to make the displays attractive and worth-while. The demonstrations included green, bunker and heavy rough equipment, drainage and irrigation demonstrations. All very practical and noteworthy. Those who missed it definately lost something. Those who attended were high in their praise of the entire affair. The attendance of Green-Chairman was disappointing for they too would have profited by what they saw here . Everyone apparently enjoyed the unscheduled air spraying exhibition too, which by chance was going on over Fitchburg at the time. The State gypsy moth control plane made several runs over the area and the last with the four motored plane passed over the heads of the turf audience within a hundred feet. Unfortunately the editor did not obtain a complete list of the many door prize winners after the luncheon but following is the list of prizes and the generous donors. A. A. C. A big thank you to Dick Silva, host Superintendent, and the Oak Hill officials for a most enjoyable meeting. Thanks again to Tony and to all the commercial men who helped to make this a big day for our club. Dr. DeFrance and Dr. Odlund from the Rhode Island Experiment Station were present and reminded all to plan on August 10 for the annual Kingston turf meeting. It was learned with sadness that Dick Finnerty's Father passed away Memorial Day, having practically reached his 84th birthday. The Association extends its sincere sympathy. In the last Newsletter the location for the August meeting was omitted. This will be at the Amesbury Golf Club August 1st, and will be a ladies day for the group. It is understood that Hampton Beach is only 12 miles away from this point., so ladies, better get the bathing suit ready. Our next meeting July 11, will be held at the Rhode Island Country Club, West Barrington, R. I. It is a beautiful course, and always a pleasant meeting. No special equipment show will be staged, but there is likely to be something of interest in this direction. Tony is planning to relax at the July and August gatherings. We'll see you there. H. Darling, Editor.
