JANUARY 1960 The Association's Annual Meeting took place December 7, at the Waltham Field Station, This was one month earlier than any previous ANNUAL in order to conform with the new By-Laws. The Association's fiscal year ending November 30, and the annual meeting fixed as the first Monday in December was agreed upon because it appeared to be a more logical arrangement. Reason -It's the first indoor meeting of the winter season making it a good period of the year to close the books and start a new year and a new season with newly appointed officers. It was also felt that the weather conditions at this time were usually more favorable for full attendance. This annual meeting was an all day affair, starting at 10:00 A.M. with a Directors meeting, business meeting at 11:00, Luncheon at 12530 Election of Officers at 1:30 followed by a round table discussion of ways and means of improving our Association and our selves, Your newly elected officers are: President 1st Vice Pres. 2nd Vice Pres. Secretary Treasurer Finance Comm. Chr. Educational Comm. Ghr^ Golf Comm. Chr. Newsletter Chr. Trustee (3 yrs.) Albert Allen Narry Sperandio Joe Butler William Ash Arthur Cody Philip Cassidy John Sperandio Guy Tedesco Homer Darling Raymond Brigham The other two trustees and their term of office are, Mike 0'Grady (2 yrs.)s and Ted Swanson (1 yr,). Past President, Manuel Francis. The first five names are the officers of our Association and they, together with the remaining names above, make up the Board of Directors of the Association. These, and the committee men they appoint, are the ones who will be diligently working to make our Association a bigger and better one for the benefit of all its members and our profession. _You have elected these men, now please give them your whole hearted support. Help yourself and your Association by helping them. You get out of any Association just about what you put in to it, so be ready to serve on any committee or do any job willingly and with enthusiasm, "You will find that the mere resolve not to be useless, and the honest desire to help other people, will, in the quickest and delicatest ways, improve yourself." Ruskin. GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENTS ASSOCIATION OF NEW ENGLAND And another one to think about — "The best thing to do behind a person's back is pat it". You Should Know, 1, That a committee, appointed by President *\llen, was asked to investigate and report back at our next meeting the cost of issuing to our members a small loose leaf book containing the names, addresses, phone numbers, and clubs of our members. Later a printed copy of the By-Laws might be added and other useful additions if warranted. 2, That John Sperandio has been appointed by the Directors to fill the unexpired term of office as our Educational Committee Chairman. (Dick Silvar we regretfully announce, for our sake, but happily for his sake, has moved to New Jersey for a bigger and better Superintendent's position.) Normally the new chairman is appointed at the annual meeting but his duties do not start until April 1. John has kindly agreed to take over at a moments notice and proceed to arrange the best possible educational program under the conditions, 3, That Dick Blake is going to take over the duties of writing the Newsletter, all or part, if arrangements can be made. This old, worn out editor knows that Dick will appreciate your moral support and hearty cooperation. There are many ways the Newsletter can be improved and made more valuable to its readers. Here's just one example; Every member of our Association must have some pet idea or hobby, a gadget, a short cut in daily maintenance, or some thought your associates would like to know about. If each of you would put in writing, one or two paragraphs only, and send it to either the old or new editor, the contributions could be used from time to time throughout the year and would be appreciated by all. Good luck Dick take it from here, NEXT MEETING - WALTHAM FIELD STATION Directors Meeting: Business Meeting!
