A jfoj-.Q Thumb with Pesticide Emulsions We are indebted to Dr. John C. Schread, Entomologist at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station for the following...useful because oft-times the label does not provide the information. "A 25% DDT emulsion contains 2 lbs, of actual DDT per gallon; a 50% chlordane emulsion contains 5 lbs. of actual chlordane per gallon; and a 72% chlordane or DDT emulsion contains 8 lbs. actual toxicant per gallon." Dr. Schread informs us that this is a good rule of thumb with most pesticide emulsions,..a 25% material would contain 2 lbs, actual toxicant, a 50% material would contain 5 lbs. actual toxicant, a 72% material would contain 8 lbs. actual toxicant. USGA Anyone interested in large area spraying should investigate the Doc Jet spray nozzle. This is a 3/4" nozzle available from Montgomery Ward, Albany, N. Y. Price $ 9.35. This is a single nozzle that will cover a 20 - 35 ft. width. I recently used this nozzle in place of a spray boom to spray fairways and roughs. Observations after using were: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Large area covered (251 average) Rapid Speed & good coverage. Rough & hilly areas no problem. Clogging - simply remove one nozzle and clean instead of several. Maneuverability excellent. A Merry Christmas and A Happy and Prosperous New Year to all. The editor - Dick Blake
