Koer MAN is the important part of management, and Superintendents are becoming increasingly better qualified to diagnose their own problems and know why, what and how to correct them. 0 . J . gave several concrete examples of the importance of proper diagnosis e Some of the things to bear in mind were as follows: 1 . Faulty diagnosis. 2o Mistaking a secondary cause and emphasizing it. 3 . Following costly and ineffective member suggestions made in good f a i t h . 4 . Choice should have the least adverse effect on play and the budget. 5. Don't ignore player criticism. The golfer may be wrong about the cause but right about playing conditions. 6 . Know the 8 basic factors affecting turf growth, 7. Success at one place does not prove a program's universal value. 8„ Fundamentals are important but meaningless without knowledge of practical turf management. 9 . The solution to most turf problems can be found on the course. 1 0 .
