Arthur Anderson has been the host for this tournament for 28 years and the course was groomed to perfection as always. One oldtimer told me he could remember back in the "40's" when poa, clover, and knotweed made up 95% of the fairways. Now 95% of the turf is basic grasses and mostly bent. The excellent Merion tees and the fast greens were enjoyed by all. When golfers ask, "How did you find the greens?" Tony Lema's recent remark "I just walk down the fairways and there they are" seems very appropriate. A Date to Watch The New England Herbicide Workshop, December 10th, all day devoted to turf weed problems. New Hampshire Highway Hotel, Concord, N. H. Anyone interested can obtain advance registration and program information from: T. R. Flanagan Ext. Weed Specialist The Extension Service - Univ. of Vermont Burlington, Vt.
