" He s a i d a l t h o u g h it d o e s not h a v e the elite status of the As o r the G s , n o r n e a r l y the t h a t c h b u i l d u p , it is f a r better t h a n Penncross o r Pennlinks. W h i t e said s u p e r i n t e n d e n t s s h o u l d not be p o i n t i n g f i n g e r s at L - 9 3 , but r a t h e r l o o k i n g in the m i r r o r . There is a m o n t h l y d e a d l i n e to m e e t , but the internet has m a d e this j o b m u c h easier f r o m w h e n Russ Heller, Ron K i r k m a n , or Kip Tyler d i d it. It w a s those predecessors that h a d the real t o u g h j o b . Typewriters? C o u r i e r s ? M i m e o g r a p h s ? Printing Presses? N o spell check? N o cut a n d paste? Please . . . W o r k i n g with n e w s p a p e r a n d m a g a zine sportswriters across the state, the e d i t o r tries t o l i n e u p s t o r i e s s e v e r a l m o n t h s in a r o w . T h e h a r d e s t p a r t is c o m i n g up w i t h story ideas that haven't been d o n e before. I s o m e t i m e s t h i n k that a story has been d o n e o n everybody with the association at least twice. But w e still m a n a g e to f i n d s o m e n e w stories a n d angles. I try to keep the content to items that d o n ' t a p p e a r in a n y o t h e r m a g a z i n e . I try to a v o i d just filler, I w o u l d r a t h e r ( a n d have) sent out a smaller newsletter t h a n waste space a n d i n c r e a s e p o s t a l costs. Yes there have been pushes to g o to color, b i g g e r a n d better, etc. But I view The Newsletter as a w a y to keep us in t o u c h w i t h e a c h other, the universities, a n d o u r local g o l f c o m m u n i t y . There a r e m a n y t r a d e m a g a z i n e s that c a n educate us m u c h better t h a n w e c a n , but local issues a n d p r o v i d i n g a f o r u m for d i s c u s s i o n is w h e r e t h e s t r e n g t h lies w i t h i n this publication. I w o u l d continue to e n c o u r a g e y o u to write to The Newsletter, or f o r it, so that it keeps its character a n d interest.
