New Jersey Golf Course Report VOLUME VI NO. 4 DECEMBER 1973 Don Marshall submitted a bid to do the job and the Board decided PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE The Board of Directors on December 6th decided to discontinue the services of Association Management Corporation as our Executive Director and mailing service. The prime reason for this decision is the cost to us this year with a definite increase scheduled for next year. that we’d like to give his program a try. Don has resigned as a voting member of the Board and will be our Executive Director. Don has been a voting member of the Board for ten straight years, something that demonstrates the keen interest, enthusiasm and personal contact he has with us. He is a past Secretary, President, newsletter editor, par- limentarian, advisory and voting delegate and I think just about everything else to our Association at one time or other. Nowhere could we find a more capable person among our ranks. We regret the necessity of changing our address, ’phone, etc., but bear with us. I personally feel that the Board made a very good move for our Association. COMMITTEE CHAIRMEN APPOINTED FOR 1974 Education Comm. - Jim McCormick, Chairman; Jack Martin, Asst. Yours truly, Maurice "Skip" Cameron, President SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT...... Are you an active member, The kind that would be missed; Or are you just contented That your name be on the list? Do you attend meetings And mingle with the flock; Or do you stay at home And criticze and knock? Do you take an active part To help the work along; Or are you satisfied to be The kind that just belong? CAHILL DOUSES BURNING BILL ( This Week in Farm Bureau) Farmers also suffered a major blow when Governor Cahill vetoed Assembly Bill 1004, which would have provided for a system of controlled open burning of waste plant materials. With more and more landfill operators refusing this kind of material, many farmers and landscapers are faced with a real problem of what to do with it. The regulation does provide that you can apply to the Secretary of Agri- culture for certification that some material has to be burned to control or prevent disease or insect damage; but this is a cumbersome process at best and it is questionable how far the Secretary can go in making such certifications. The question now is where do we go from here? (Ed.: Think we ought to try the new ”Gov”, or else send a couple of car- loads of brush C.O.D. to Trenton.) Do you ever go to visit A member who is sick? Or leave the work to just a few And talk about the clique? Anon. Think this over, member You know right from wrong; Are you an active member Or do you "just belong"? (Taken from: Conn Clippings) TURF CLIPPINGS Our stalwart retired member Bill Monahan has run into some continued health problems. As of now Bill is in Kessler Institute in West Orange The Association will be providing a wheel chair for Bill from the Benevolent Fund. There’s no doubt he would appreciate visits and/or letters from members - especially the "old guard". Ted Roberts has recently left for the warmer climes of Williamsburg, Virginia. The former National President has taken over the Anheuser- Busch golf course there. Former National President’s seem to somehow do quite well in the job market - Bob Mitchell just moved into the 54 hole Greenbrier set-up, and we understand Dick Blake is now at the Woodstock, Vermont complex. There can be little doubt that everyone knows "Jack is now from Shack" and Gene is with the "Red Machine"! Watch your flights for the National Meeting in L.A. very carefully. Travel agents and customer relations people have a way of making everything sound great. Flights are being dropped so rapidly even the computers are behind! Don’t get left at the gate! Jim McCormick would like any and all interested in antique motorcycles to get in touch. He’s won some prizes for restoration and is interested in any "bike" in any condition that’s old.
