All Board Members please attend the May 21st meeting at Panther Valley and stay for a very brief discussion of the above. Thank you, Skip Cameron, President MARSHALL SHAPES UP Dear Fellow Supt.: It is with no small amount of regret that I leave your Association's position of Executive Director. It was a short span of tenure, and I had not planned that it would be anything short of "a long time". If possible, it is with even a stronger feeling of personal loss that I leave you, my friends, in the area. I could write all sorts of maudlin paragraphs about the past 16 years. Suffice to say we've had some damn good times and done some damn good things. I made a decision I had to make, and will have to live with it. Sincere best wishes, Don M. P.S. I have no intention of resigning the Association, and I don't think I'll be able to be called "manager" again for quite a while, but please don't hold it against your fellow members, who may reach that "hardspot" by virtue of a promotion. It could, and perhaps should, be you, and you won't help yourself or others by believing there is no possible promotion from Supt. For years the National Golf Fund has contributed generously to turfgrass research and scholarships through the GCSAA Reasearch and Scholarship Fund and the U.S.G.A. Green Section Research and Education Fund, Inc., but the real benefactors are all clubs throughout the nation. We encourage you, therefore, to promote National Golf Day at your club - it’s for you, your profession, for golf and your golf course. The National Golf Fund is derived from National Day. On National Golf Day professional golfers will set the target score on June 3rd. Jack Nicklaus, PGA Champion, and Johnny Miller, USGA Open Champion, will compete to set the target score for men, while Susie Berning, Women's Open Champion, and Mary Mills, Ladies' PGA Champion, will set the target score for the ladies. Amateur golfers will be allowed full handicaps and those whose net scores are lower than the target score will receive a memento, Golfers will compete from June 8th through June 16th. Get together with your professional and urge him to promote National Golf Day at your club. Al Radko, USGA (Thanks Al - Ed.)
