TURF CLIPPINGS We all certainly enjoyed our meeting at Spring Lake. Al was his usual wonderful host. Lou had another excellent meal for us. It got a little cool in the afternoon but everyone enjoyed playing, especially on the nice bent population Al has on his fairways. Pete Pedrazzi hot off the tour took low net for the day. We had a good turnout of 71 for dinner. We will continue the same set-up on the dinner tickets. The after dinner speaker Mr. Richard Kain (a Certified Parliamentarian) gave an interesting talk with the use of a chart, various types of motions that could be brought up at a meeting and how they can be handled . I am sure it will help us in our own organization. Ted Roberts was discussing a few pints with Mr. Cain after the meeting. A President of any organization has a great deal to remember so that the meeting runs smoothly and according to the specified Parlimentary rules stated in the by-laws. In our own association it is Roberts Rules. The meeting at Ridgewood on May 10 should be a good one with our own President Bob Kapherr as host along with the PGA pro Harry Dee who is also the President of the PGA. In N.J. Lets hope we receive a little more rain and warm sunshine, I am sure there will be much discussion over the conditions that have prevailed this Spring. In cases where fertilization has been held off until warmer growing conditions things look a little sick. This always brings up the topic of Spring fertilization. Spring Maintenance practices along with fertilization and various theories on anti Poa Annua growth. It would be a great panel discussion to have sometime. NJGCSA HAPPENINGS Don Marshall would still like to hear from those who have as yet to send in their questionaire. It certianly will be of great benefit to us all if enough questionaires are sent in so that final tabulations can be made available to us. A great amount of work went into the questions ire so lets all cooperate by sending in our questionaire. Wes Drake is back on his feet after having spent 2 1/2 months on his back recovering from a back operation. He said the pain was unbelievable for four days. He hopes to say hello at Ridgewood. Don Marshall and Red Williams appear in a snap shot in the Jersey Golfer in regard to the PGA show and our booth. The Turf Clippings which appears each month in the golfer would appreciate any articles that could be put in the column. Any Superintendent can receive a free subscription just by sending in his club address. The new superintendent at Essex County but certainly no stranger is Ray Hansen. It looks like our profession is moving in the right direction as fellows leaving the field are now coming back. It takes time and effort but cur image is slowly moving upward so lets allturn out at Ridgewood and keep the ball moving. Yours for better turf Garry Crothers, Charlie McCrea
