NEW JERSEY GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENTS ASSOCIATION NJGCSA Happenings: Turf Clippings Bamm Hollow: We certainly had a nice turnout at Bamm Hollow with about 50 golfers. The course which is only about 5 years old improves each time we play there. Harry Harsin took honors for the day with an 81. The old Pro, Pete Pedrazzi had the fewest putts with 32. It’s a long course so the hot shower felt good to everyone. A few nips at the bar and then a delicious buffet which I am sure left no empty stomachs and satisfied all desires for a wide variety of excellent food special ties. Here’s to more buffets. Norm introduced his chairman Mr. Ern, and then we had our educational program of the evening. Mr. Mendres from the New Jersey Bell Telephone Co. gave a presentation of Project Apollo, with colored slides which simulated a landing on the moon. In regard to the up and coming US Open we were sorry that we were not able to include Class C members but the Superintendents and assistants are the only ones entitled to complimentary tickets under USGA regulations which was pointed out to us by the Admissions Chair man of Baltusrol. They have adopted the same policy. You will receive further information on the Track Outing at Mon- mouthPark and also the July meeting at Picatinny Arsenal. Dates are: June 27th—Monmouth Park July 13th—Picatinny Labor: Yes, each year labor becomes an increasing problem. In the last Golf Superintendent there were several articles pertaining to this critical subject. Many of us are having troubles again and the future certainly doesn’t look promising with the increase of industry throughout the state along with higher hourly rates than ours, along with many fringe benefits which most clubs are not willing to provide- pension, hospitalization and medical care. Many superintendents are relying on part time help such as school teachers, students, police and firemen, and men over 65 who are on small pensions. This subject might prove to be an interesting or panel discussion at one of our meetings. We would like to welcome 4 new members into the Association.
