Turf Clippings Everybody enjoyed the rolling layout of Morris County Golf Morris County Golf Club NJGCSA Happenings Club for the Superintendents Championship. Our host Joe Antonaccio tried his best to bring home the bacon but was beaten out by Richard Browne of Maplewood with a nice 76. The commercial prize was again won by Bob Dobbie of Pierson’s Mills. NJGCSA Invitational - Well it seems that we are jinxed with bad weather for our annual invitational. For the 2nd year we had rain only this year it just decided to pour while just about everybody was out on the course. Our host Jack Martin and Invitational Chairman had the course in excellent shape and it was just too bad we couldn't enjoy it. The tournament team championship was on 9 holes while the low profession al was based on those who completed the 18. Marty Wallach host pro took first prize. The team from Fairmount with Ted Roberts leading the way took the first prize in the Invitational which consisted of the Superintendent, pro, manager and club official. The other trophy was won by Colonia Country Club. Gene Tarulli leading his foursome. There was a tie for the low Superintendent between Sabby Defalco of Tammy Brook and Harry Harsin of Twin Brook Golf Center. We had an excellent cocktail hour which actually started about 4:30 and lasted until 7. Then we had an excellent dinner followed by a few words from Mr. Bob Miller President of the New Jersey State Golf Association, also Mr. Harvey Brown president of the NJ Managers Association and then Harry Dee from the NJ PGA. Jack introduced his President along with his Chairman Mr. Jones who actually stole the show with some spontan eous stories and some beautiful jokes. It certainly kept the evening a lively one. Its getting better each year so plan to make next years Invitational, but pray for sunshine. We hope that Pete Pedrazzi will soon be able to return to his home. He had an unexpected flash fire and had to make a fast exit. Jack Ormond is recovering rapidly from his recent illness. He is now having visitors at Overbrook Hospital in Summit. We understand Carl Treat would like to see some of his old friends as he is now house bound. We regret to announce the passing of two of our members, Bill Schoppe formerly of Raritan Valley and Percy Platt of Lakewood. Percy was a distinguished gentleman who certainly had a wealth of knowledge about turf. Reminder: Al Caravella is on the slate for National Director of GCSAA. The annual meeting is November 28th at Burns Country Inn Christmas Party - Dec. 2 Tammy Brook CC
