This is an important meeting as election of board members will take place at this time. Board members whose terms expire are Tom Reed, Bob Rieschl, Steve White, and Dave Longfield. The nominating committee has done a fine job of selecting a slate of candidates for this election. One vendor will be elected to office for a two year period, and the candidates are Fred Miller, from TCI, Inc. and David Sapp, Scotts Proturf. Three regular board members will be elected for a three year term of office. These candidates include: Tom Brogger, Birchwood Farms; Paul Holmes, Gaylord Country Club; Mike Barton, Wequetonsing Golf Club; Bob Rieschl, Crystal Lake Golf and Country Club; Dave Little, Lakewood Shores Golf Club; Damian Kurkowski, Sylvan Resort; Tim Wilcox, Leland Country Club. Additional nominations may be made from the floor. Anyone unable to attend the golf outing, but wishes to attend the banquet and meeting will be charged $30. If anyone wishes to attend the meeting only, there is no charge and you are welcome to attend the address of our guest speaker, Mr. Fred Grau. We’re hoping these flexible arrangements will allow as many members as possible a chance to cast their vote for the candidates of their choice. Please make an effort to do so. The third annual MSU/MTF field day, trade show, and equipment auction will be held at the Hancock Turfgrass Research Center on the campus of M.S.U. on Sept. 4. The events will begin at 9:15 a.m. with a welcome from Dr. Jim Fischer, associate director of the MSU agricultural experiment station. The field tour will start at 9:30 a.m. and will view the latest in field research at MSU. Stops will include annual bluegrass, creeping bentgrass competition, ethofumesate control of annual bluegrass, a demonstration of the mini-rhizotron system for viewing roots, core cultivation research, fertility research, u;date on necrotic ring spot disease and much more. Following the field day will be a catered lunch and trade show. The trade show will feature the latest in turf equipment and supplies and will be your only opportunity to view all the different vendor’s equipment at one time. The lunch will be a pig roast and if you were at the show last year, you’ll remember what an outstanding lunch was served. At 2:00 o’clock, an auction will be held featuring new and used equipment. In previous years the auction has yielded some valuable equipment and supplies at unbelievable low prices. The auction is cash only, so bring your check books. This day will be an exciting and educational experience for all who attend. Please reserve Sept. 4 on your calendar and plan on attending the 1986 MSU/MTF field day, trade show and equipment auction.
