are  no  bells  or  alarms  connected  with 
the  clocks  a nd t he quiet  system  which 
has  been  in  use  ever  since  t he  burn

JAPANESE  G I R L ,"  a  clever  and 
delightful  operetta,  will  be  presented 
by  t he  M.  A.  C.  Girls'  Glee  club  on 
the  evening  of  May 27  in  t he  college 
armory.  This  is  t he first  time  in  sev 
eral  years  t h at  t he club  h as  attempted 
a n y t h i ng  of  this  kind  and  no  effort 
is  being  spared  to  make  t he  perform 
ance  a  success. 

HOLIDAYS  seem  to  be  very  much  in 
vogue  this  term  a nd  their  popularity 
with  students  is  in  no  sense  dimin 
ishing.  Two  weeks  ago,  Friday,

was  a  college  holiday  on  account  of

inspection,  and 
on  Tuesday,  May 13th, M. A.  C.  cele

It  is  indeed  quite  a  change 
in  conditions  from  four  or  five  years 
ago  when  600  M.  A.  C.  men  took  their 
meals  in  boarding  establishments,  op 
erated  and  supervised  by  the  college. 
The  boarding  club  system  at  M.  A. 
C.  is  of  long  standing. 
It  was  estab 
lished  nearly  40  years  ago  by  the  late 
Rolla  Clinton  Carpenter,  '73,  and  dur 
it 
ing 
has  been  a  system  beyond 
reproach 
as  far  as  the 
individual  student  was 
concerned.  He  was  given  cheap  board 
and 
and  his 
cooked  and  served  at  just  cost.  Fur 
thermore  it  provided  certain  valuable 
experience  for  a 
upper 
classmen  who  acted  as  stewards  and 
managed  the  clubs  under  the  general 
direction  of  the  college  secretary.  Our 
boarding  club  plan  has  been  consid 
ered  extremely  successful.

tives  to  the  college  to  learn  its  details 
and  see  our  cooperative  plan  in  oper 
ation.  There  are  in  Michigan  several

Naval  Reserve  Forces  in  F e b r u a ry  and 
is  now  at  Emporium,  Pa.  While  in 
service  he  was  stationed  at  Southern 
Railway  Pier  No.  4,  P i n n e r 's  Point, 
Va.,  as  shipper  for  the  North  Sea 
Mine  Forces  this  side  of  the  Atlantic. 
His  organization  had  to  do  with  the 
shipping  of  mine  anchors  a nd  spares 
as  well  as  fleet  stores  for  the  mine 
layers  of  the  N i n th  Battle  Squadron 
in 

the  N o r th  Sea. 

J.  E.  Foess  with  the  10th  Engineers 
in  F r a n ce  is  now  attending  t he  A.  E. 
F.  University  at  Toulouse, 
France.
