these  men a re casuals  sent  h e re  by  t he 
Federal  Board,  with  all expenses  paid, 
and  with  previous  educational 
train 
ing  varying  all t he way from  seventh 
and  eighth  grade  work  to  post  gradu 
ate  work.  These  a re  all  m en w ho 
could  not  be  given  a  clear  discharge 
because  of  some  disability,  a nd  they 
their  own 
are  allowed

broad  limitations.  Most  of  these m en

The  class  of  1919  h as  just

Fund.  The  money  was  first  solicited 
for  a  gift  to  the  campus  which  was 
to  take  the  form  of  an  entrance  gate 
way  at  the  western  approach

college  grounds.  Upon  the  launching 
of  the  Union  Memorial  Building  pro 
ject  the  decision  of  the  class  as  to  the 
disposal  of  t he  gift  money  was  changed 
in  favor  of  the  Building  Fund.  The 
gift  subscription  t h us  far  amounts  to 
about  $250.00.

The  Grand  Rapids-M.  A.  C.  Alumni 
Association  had  a  splendid

meeting  as  the  guests  of  Mr.  and  Mrs. 
J.  H.  Skinner  on  t he  Brewer  F a r m, 
on  August  30th.  The  guests,

the  farm  and  farm  dairy  buildings.

THE  U.  S.  S.  "New  Mexico,"  the  first

erators  of  400  horsepower  each,  supply 
power  for  nearly  500  motors,  driving  pumps, 
fans,  shop  machinery,  and  kitchen  and  laun 
dry  appliances,  etc.

achievements  of  the  scientific  age.  She  not 
only  develops 
the  maximum  power  and, 
with  electrical  control,  has  greater  flexi

omy.  At  10  knots,  her 
normal  cruising  speed,  she
