The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. • On motion of Mr. Beaumont, Judge Carpenter was invited to address the Board in relation to the mill-tax act extending aid to Michigan Agricultural College. !Co. agent for ::Jackson Co. ^Date of Mr. | Mi lien's em-f f i ployment changed. Dr. Parnell and Mr. Leide of the Jackson Chamber of Commerce, appeared before the Board asking aid in securing a county agent for Jackson County. On motion of Mr. Doherty the date of Mr. F. E. Hillen's employment as "bee inspector, was changed from September 1st to August 15th. On motion of Mr. Graham, Dr. Bessey and the Secretary were authorized to prepare a circular in relation to seed inspection under the provisions of the lifCir. in re* | l a t i on to ?: seed i Mr. Baldwin1 appointed supt. of ext.Baldwin t>e appointed superintendent of the extension department, was approved. recently enacted seed law and to give it such publicity as may he thought necessary. On motion of Mr. Doherty, the recommendation of Dean Shaw, that Mr.Robert dept. Resignation of Prof. Jeffery. president Snyder presented the resignation of Prof. Joseph A. Jeffery, which was, on motion of Mr. fcraham, accepted, and the Secretary w as requested to express to him the Board's appreciation of his faithful and painstaking service. On motion of Mr. Woodman, Prof. French was authorized to co-operate with To organize the Earm Management Division of the Department of Agriculture in organizing 'boys1 agri.•clubs; and girls' agricultural clubs and to employ a suitable person to place in charge of this work, .the salary, to "be paid jointly "by the College and the United States Government. : : ; : ;.'. ; ; - ; On motion cf Mr. Graham, the following new appointments were authorized: Uew appoiiit-=r-i?aie field man in horticulture; one experiment station man in horticulture; one field ments. man in dairying and one field man in farm mechanics. Chairs for IT. M. C. A. Appointment of "an alumni Isecretary. Plans for a veterinary "building. On motion of Mr. Graham, the Secretary was authorized to purchase two dozen chairs for the use of the ¥. M. C. A. On motion of Mr. Graham, a committee consisting of the Presidentt and Secretary, was appointed to co-operate ?fith the alumni organization in relation to the appointment of an alumni secretary. On motion of Mr. Beaumont, Mr. Bowd was requested to prepare plans and specifications for a veterinary "building somewhat in accordance with the sketch submitted and the Committee on Buildings and College Property was requested to co- operate with him in .this worK and when completed, to approve the plans and adver- tise for "bids for construction. Professorship of Math. offered to Mr.Thurtell On motion of Mr. Beaumont, the President was directed to offer the profes- sorship of mathematics to Mr. Henry Thurtell of Washington, D. 0., at §2,500 per year, and if he shall not accept, then to offer it to Mr,- Louis Plant of Missoula, Montana, at the same salary. On motion of Mr. Beaumont, the Secretary was authorized to have cuts made for Dr. Beai*s history of the College and to pay for the.work of typewriting.
