10440 MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES July 22, 1993 The Special Meeting of the Michigan State University Board of Trustees was called to order, by Chairperson Joel Ferguson on Thursday, July 22, 1993, at 6:30 p.m. in the Lincoln Room of The Kellogg Center. Trustees present: Dolores M. Cook, Joel Ferguson, Dorothy Gonzales, Russell G. Mawby, Barbara Sawyer-Koch, John D. Shingleton, Bob Traxler, and Robert E. Weiss, University officer present: Secretary MarcelletteG. Williams/ Others present: Dr. Bruce Miller, Executive Director, Presidential Search Committee. All actions taken were by unanimous vote of the Trustees present, unless otherwise noted. On a motion by Mr. approve the agenda. Shingleton, supported by Ms. Cook, THE BOARD VOTED to 2. 3, Interview of Candidates for President There were no public participants. Chairperson Ferguson announced the purpose of the meeting was to interview the following candidates for the Presidency of Michigan State University: Dr. Lou Anna K. Simon, Interim Provost, Michigan State University; Dr. • Henry Yang, Dean, College of Engineering, Purdue University,. West Lafayette, Indiana; and Dr. Dale W, Lick, President, Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida. He reported the meeting format would be the same one used by the Search Committee: the candidates would make opening statements about themselves and how their Presidency would impact favorably on the University, the Board would ask questions of the candidates, and conclude with a summation. Each candidate was introduced by Chairperson Ferguson. Following the interviews, Mr* Ferguson thanked the candidates for their participation and complimented the Presidential Search Committee for their recommendations. He announced that the Board of Trustees would meet on Tuesday, July 27, 1993, and an opportunity would be provided for public participation.
