Knowles of Azalia, Michigan, was appointed Instructor and Superintendent of tfc Poultry plant at a salary of $1200.00 per year beginning January 2?th* On motion of Mr. Waterbury, the resignation of Mr* W. N. Clark as Instructor in Animal Husbandry, to take effect March 10th, was accepted. On motion of Mr. Beaumont, the communication from Mr* Martin F. Cannody in regard to payment for labor performed as inspector of grapes under supervision of Mr. Elsworth, was referred to Director Baldwin and Mr* Woodman with power to act* On motion of Mr* Doherty, the proposal of Mr. Hudson that he furnish an automobile to be used in connection with his work as Superintendent of t&e Farm, and that the College provide the gasoline and repairs, was accepted* On motion of Mr. Beaumont, the request of Prof* Johnston that he be authorized to employ an additional instructor at a salary of §1200.00 per year beginning September 1st, was granted* . . On motion of Mr* Doherty, Mr. Lindemann was authorized to attend the meeting of the National Educational Association of America at Kansas City for the purpose of delivering an address on "The Michigan Plan for Conducting Home Gardens," with expenses paid. On motion of Mr. Beaumont, the reconmendatfcn of Prof• P e t t it that Mr. p. B. Wiltberger be appointed to the position formerly held by Mr. Woodin at a salary of $1000*00A mlf to be paid from the Experiment Station and half from the College, was approved* The President presented a coiritnunication from Prof* Ryder in regard to certain matters relating to the Suiamer School,, which on motion of Mr. Doherty was referred to the President and Secretary with power to a c t. : The President presented communications from Mr* Sidney Boyce of Saginaw and Earle P. Robinson, County Agent for Saginaw County, in regard to the milk weed fibre investigation. On motion of Mr. Wallace, the Secretary was directed to secure f u ll information concerning the p o s s i b i l i t i es of this fibre from the manufacturer»,s standpoint, together with the opinion of the fibre expert, in the federal cepart- ment of agriculture, and to continue Mr. Boyce upon the College payroll in- cluding the month of January for which he has not been paid* IZRI 1 The President presented a set of resolutions from the Berrien County Horticultural Society signed by President Jacob Friday and-Secretary P. ; J. Kf R 6 E* On motion of Mr* Doherty, the Public Domain Commission was authorized to s e ll such a right of way across the above described lands to the Eastern Michigan Power Company upon the same terms as the sale made to . this company and reported by Mr. Carton, Secretary of the Public Domain Commissions * under date of April 28th, 1916* . President ^Emeritus /Snyder r e- signs* The Secretary presented"the following l e t t er from President Sneritus Snyder: To the Honorable State Board of Agriculture, Gentlemen:— Peb. 22, 1917* When I accepted the position of President Emeritus it was with the understanding on your part as well as nxjr own that I would actively serve the College and thereby earn the salary attached to the position. While I have per- formed various functions and cooperated in many efforts, there has not opened up that broad field for constructive work which we both had in mind at the time. I f e e l, therefore, in honor bound to tender you my-resignation which I do here- with. Thanking you for the many courtesies which you have shown me, I am, Very t r u ly yours, (Signed) J. On motion of Mr. Graham, the following resolution was adopted: Whereas, President JDneritus Snyder has presented his resignation! upon the ground that contrary to his expectation no opportunity for the employ- ment of his services has developed, commensurate with the salary established by the Board at the time the position was created and Whereas, It seems eminently f i t t i ng that one who has for so many years been intimately connected with the educational affairs of the s t a te and nation, should retain his official connection in t h is f i e l d, therefore be it RESOLVED, That the resignation be not accepted but tiiat the salary for the reason cited be discontinued. On motion of Mr. Doherty, the name MKedzie Chemical Building11 as fixed by the Board at i ts last meeting for the chemical laboratory., was changed to the "Kedzie Chemical Laboratory."
