The minutes of the previous meeting having been in the hands of t he members, were approved without reading. The President present^notification of the resignation of Mr. T. A. Parrand as County Agent for VanBuren County to take effect March 1 s t, which on motion of Mr. Woodman, was accepted. . On motion of Mr. Woodman, the request of Director Baldwin that Miss . M. DeBoth be transferred from regular to emergency funds January 1 s t, 1918, and that Miss Florence Justin be appointed Extension S p e c i a l i st in Home Economics at a salary of #1200*00 to begin February 1 s t, was approved. On motion of Mr. Beaumont, Mr. ]F. L. True was appointed County Agent for Alpena County beginning January 1 s t, 1918, #600 of h is salary to be paid from Smith-Lever funds, $600 ay the United States Department of Agriculture, and t he balance by t he County; also Mr. I. B. McMurtry County Agent for Cheboygan County from January 22nd, 191S, #600 of h is salary to be paid from federal Smith-Lever funds, #600 ay t he United States Department of Agriculture, and the balance by the County. To the President and Members of the State Board of Agriculture: - In taking advantage of the provisions of the Smith-Hughes law, which is the law providing for Federal aid for Industrial Education, the Michigan Agri- cultural College was designated as one of the Institutions to provide trained teachers for industrial subjects* 23rd, 1917, and the Tufts law, which was the State legislation enacted to meet the provisions of the Federal law became a part of our statutes in March of the same year. The Board designated in the Tufts law to supervise the vocational education within the State, immediately set about preparing plan© for the intro-- duction of vocational courses along three lines: The Federal Act became a law on February fa) Agriculture (b) Trades and Industries (c) Home Economics These plans were approved by the Federal Board for Vocational Education on December ^ The State Board of Control having designated the Michigan Agricultural College as one of the Institutions to prepare teachers of agriculture and Home Economics, the machinery was set in motion early in the College year but could 'mot be completed until the Michigan plan had been approved, as above stated* Under the direction of the President, the department of Agricultural Education and the department of Home Economics entered upon a plan to make use of the East Lansin? high school as a part of the teacher training plan and agreements have been entered into-M*the Board of Education of the East Lansing schools isto furnish the rooms and the students and the College to furnish the equipment and the critic teachers for the purpose of training members of the senior class in agriculture and In home economics for positions in teaching vocational agriculture in the public schools, and vocational home economics in the public schools, :- , Agricultural Plan school; one subject or unit in each grade. (a) The course of study covers the four-years of the regular high '. (b) The student elects this course, (c) The senior students in agriculture give the instruction under the direction of the critic teacher. Home Economics Plan (a)-The course of study is offered for two years in the high school, ("b) High school girls elect this course. (c) The instruction is given by senior Home Economics students under the direction of a critic teacher* Critic Teachers Mr. E. Lynn Grover of the department of agricultural education is taking charge of the critic teacher work and of the instruction in agriculture.. Miss Elizabeth Prazer:- of Buffalo, N.Y., is directing the teacher train- ing and instruction in Home Economics. The matter of letting the contract or employing help to do the work, was referred to the President and Secretary .with power to act. On motion of Mr. Doherty, the President was authorized to look into the question of centralizing the photographic work of the College.
