State Board of .Agriculture• Gentlemen: — ?#iereas the Pennsylvania Salt Manufacturing Company is consider ing the giving of a small building to the division of entomology- of the Experiment Station, in order that the experiments on the control of.gapes in poultry which are now under way, may be continued through the winter* ,1 It is suggested that the Board may wish- to consider the advisability of accepting provisionally the gift at a September meeting* It is planned that if the structure is given and accepted will, be put up by the College on the campus in some, suitable location designated by the College authorities.* The Building to cost in the neighborhoodwof §3000* It should be of concrete blocks or of brick and so built that it will be of pleasing appearance• The size to be 20 X 30 feet* The action is desired at this time .so that if the plan is approved and the building is offered soon, the.construction may be commenced immed iately before the material under experimentation is allowed to die out* Hoping this will meet with your approval, " " Yours respectfully, (Signed) R* H. Reed were author ized to attend the fifth annual exposition of Chemical Industries &t Chicago, the week of September 22, with transportation expenses paid* On motion of Mr* Waterbuay, the expenses of Mr* Cox and Mr * Bib- bins in attending a meeting in Chic ago , were allowed, limited to transpor tation* They were authorized to attend a meeting in Chicago under the aus pices of the Board of Trade to demonstrate methods of grain judging* - On motion of Ivlr« Doherty, the following report of the special committee on the Graham Experiment Station was accepted and adopted* September 16, 1919* President 1* S* Eedzie; East Lansing, Michigan* Dear President Kedzie:- The following is a report of the Committee appointed by the State Board of Agriculture to confer with Mr* Graham with regard to plans for the future development of the Graham Station: Halligan and myself met in Grand Rapids with Mr* Graham arid visited the Station farm* The Committee submits the following recommendations, viz: On Friday, August 29th,. Mr* I, R* Y/aterfcury, C* P» (1)* It is highly desirable that funds and facil ities be provided as promptly as possible in order to permit of the rapid establishment of the work to be undertaken especially the extensive and varied plantings essential to investigational and demonstration work* The Committee was impressed with Mr* Graham»s views relating to the im pending demand ojf the next few years for information relating to horti cultural production* practical horticulturist, particularly through the planting and development stage• The superintendent should be an experienced man yet young enough so. that the years of energy and ambition are before rather than behind hizru (2)* The Station should be superintended l^y a •must precede, to establish a basis, assignments of suitable scientific specialists may be made from the College during portions of the year as soon as the facilities ,for their work is provided* (3)» While the work of the practical horticulturist (*0« ^he Committee desires prof* Halligan to pro ceed with the preparation of plans to provide the most suitable possible landscape effect on the property frontage* for ample funds and speedy provision of suitable buildings needed* (5)* The Committee feels that there is urgent need (6)* Because of Mr* Graham*s years of experience as a practical horticulturist, the Committee desires to look to him for continued guidance in the establishment and direction of the Station and will greatlj7, appreciate the assistance he may continue to give* • (Signed) Committee* R. Experiment Station, On motion of Mr* Woodman, the following resolution was adopted* RESOLVED,, That- the President and Director Baldwin be authorized to make arrangements with Antrim County and the Michigan' Cooperative Potato Shippers Association relative to the employment of Mr.. Cribbs, County-- Agri- . cultural Agent,, as an Extension Agent in Marketing, up to January 1st, 1920* Qn motion of Mr* Beaumont, Prof. Ryder was authorized to take up 'with the Federal Government, the question of his claim for remuneration for teaching War Aims to sections A and B of the S* A* T* C.
