,ZRI MEETING OF THE STATE BOARD OF AGRICULTURE Presidents Office* August 17, 3:30 P. M. Present, President Kedzie, Mrs. Stockman,.Messrs. Woodman, Watkins and Waterbury. The minutes of the previous meeting having been in the hands of the members, were approved without reading. - - On motion of Mrs. Stockman, the resignation.of Miss Florence Stoll, Instructor in Home Economics, and the resignation of C. W. Simpson, Instructor in Soils, were accepted - the former effective Aug. 30th and the latter Aug. 15th. On motion of Mr. Woodman,• leave of absence was granted to Miss Hilda Faust, Professor of Home Economics, for a half year without pay for the purpose of studying at Columbia University, and authority was given Dean Sweeny to fill vacancies in the Home Economics Division. On motion of Mrs. Stockman, Miss Inn a Gross was appointed Instructor in Home Economics at a salary of $1600 per annum and residence in the practice house. On motion of Mr* Woodman, an amount not in excess of $40 was author- ized to be expended in paying the expenses of Prof* Ewing of the Chemical De- partment in visiting the laboratories of the Universities of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Montana. On motion of Mr. Watkins, the President was authorized to confer the degree of Master of Science upon Mr. Hohei Fujiyama* On motion of Mrs* Stockman, the following appointments were made in the Extension Division: Mr. T. R. Shane, County Agricultural Agent for Chipp ewa County at a salary of $2200 per annum, $1200 to be paid by.the College, effective July 15th. Mr. George H. Kimball, County Club Leader for Oakland County at a salary of $2400, $600 to be paid by the College, effective August 1st and terminating March 3lst» Mi88 Jennie Williams, Home Demonstration Agent for Gogebic County at a salary of $2250 per- annum, $1000 to be paid by the College effective August 1st* On motion of Mr. Watkins, Mr. Hubert M. Brown M« Brown was appointed half time Graduate Assistant in Farm Crops beginning Sept. 1st, at a salary of $2>00 per annum* On motion of Mr. Woodman, Mr. Douglas V. Steere was granted a teacher's certificate under the provisions of Act 165, P.A. 1909* _A\ letter from Mr*. T. A.Farrand, Secretary of the Michigan State Horticultural Society, suggested that a joint meeting ofthe State Board of Agriculture and a committee of this Society be held at the Graham Horticul- tural Experiment Station. On motion of Mr. Woodman, the matter of repairs on the house used "by the Flower Pot Cafe was referred to Mr. Watkins with power to act. Kedzie»s resignation taken from the table and accepted at his request, to take effect September 1st. accepted* On motion of Mr. Woodman, the resignation of President Kedzie was The special committee upon the selection of a President reported, by its chairman Mr. Watkins, that Prof. Friday had consented to accept the position January 1st on the basis of a salary of $12000 and, house, and the committee re- profiFriday apptd»Pres» commended his election. On motion of Mr. Watkins, the report and recommendation of the committee were unanimously adopted. On motion of Mr. Waterbury, Mrs. Stockman.and Mr. Woodman were appointed a committee to present suitable resolutions in appreciation of President Kedzie's service. The committee presented the following resolution which was adopted: RESOLVED, That we express our appreciation of the six years splendid leadership of President Kedzie through the years when agriculture was passing through the fires of war experience and the more difficult months of reconstruc- tion when our Michigan Agricultural College has met the needs in agricuture. We are glad he is to head our new Applied Science course; as an eminent scientist he will help place M.A.C. in the first ranks. On motion of Mr. Waterbury, Dean Shaw was elected Acting President '••4.
