MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE STATE BOARD OF AGRICULTURE . June 7, 1950 Present: Messrs* Berkey, Brody, McPherson, Mrs. Stockman, President Shaw and Secretary HalladayV Absent: Messrs. MeColl, Watkins, Superintendent Pearce The meeting was called to order at 10:15 A.M. APPOINTMENTS Appointments l.x Request of Dr. Hunt that Miss Dorothy M. Anderson be assigned to the graduate assistantship in Zoology at a stipend of #800 per year. 2. Appointment of Miss Lydia Lightring^ as Associate Professor and Acting Head of the Depart- ment of PhysicalEduca/fcion for Women, replacing Miss Grimes at a salary of $3500. •.5* Appointment of Miss Hazel E. Jones,• as Instructor in Physical Education, (Corrective Gymnastics) replacing Miss Lindsay at a salary of #2100. 4. Miss Marguerite Bosworth and Miss Jennie Fisher for appointments as i time assistants from Purnell funds, at $500 each, to fill assistantships in Home Management Research and Nurti- tion Research, if same are approved for establishment• 5/ Appointment ox Dr. F,M. Thrun as Research Associate and' Associate Professor in the Depart- ment of Economics to carry on investigations relating to taxation, at a salary of §5600 per year, effective September 1, 1930. T^o-thirds of the salary to be paid from Purnell station funds and one-third from college funds. Mr. Thrun replaces Mr. Newton, resigned. On motion of Mr* Brody, it was' voted to approve the above appointments. RESIGNATIONS 1. 'Mr. Kenneth Post, Department of Horticulture, as Extension Specialist in Floriculture/ effective September 1st. 2* Mr. John W. Stephens, Public School Music, effective September 1st. Mr* Stephens was to have been engaged next year, starting September 1st, for part time instruction in Public School Music at a sum of £600.00. On motion of Mr. Berkey, it vzas voted to accept the above resignations. TRAVEL REQUESTS : • 1. H. -R. Pettigrove to attend the summer meeting of the Corn Belt Section of the American Society of. Agrpnonry-, at Lincoln, Nebraska, on June 23rd and 24th, slth •transportation and pullman. expenses paid from the college funds of the Farm Crops Department/ Travel 2. Report on authorization for two instructors in Animal Husbandry using cars to convey students to. the Purdue contest^ cost to be limited to §75.00, 3« Request for authorization for payment of transportation expenses for class of civil engineering students on inspection trip to Chicago. Trip taken April 50 to May 5. No action on e/bove request. On motion of Mr. Berkey, it was voted to approve the first two travel requests. McPherson, it was voted that the barn on the Biebesheimer Farm be considered for use in the dairy experimental feeding projects and the funds necessary to rehabilitate and to I make such necessary changes as would be required, be transferred from the special creamery funds,- | amount not to exceed S5,000,-~ the drawings to be prepared and submitted to the Board at its j next meeting. 9# Secretary to check on various funds on improvements to grounds• On motion of Mr* Brody, it v/as voted that the Secretary make a check on the various funds on Improvements to Grounds and that a report be made to the Finance Committee. 10• Secretary to make a check on the appropriations for the biennium 1929-30, with a view of ascertaining, if possible, what specific items were included in the appropriation. Bids on Anatomy and Animal Disease Research Laboratory to be returned* On motion of Mr, McPherson, it was voted that inasmuch as the bid received for the new Anatomy and Animal Disease Research Laboratory-building runs much higher than was anticipated and that some doubt arises as to the legality of '.using certain funds for that purpose, it was thought best to defer action until such time", as definite information can be secured and that the checks ;vvhich are now being held from the low bidders be returned to them. •12.-. Acceptance of Bill of Sale from Mr. W.K.
