On motion of Mr. Eerkey, seconded by Mr. Halstead, it was voted to approve item 19. Extension of Ormond Drake's leave 20. Request of Mr. Ormond J.. Drake, at present teaching at New York University on a one yearfs leave of absence without pay, that he be granted an additional year of leave to continue his work therec This is recommended by Dean JBhmions with the understanding that his period of leave will definitely terminate on August 31, 193S. Leave for G.A. Branaman 21. Request of Mr* G. A. Branaman, Assistant Professor of Animal Husbandry, that he be granted leave of absence for the period August 1, 1937 to July 1, 1938 so that he may complete residence requirements for the doctorate degree at the University of Illinois. Full pay for the first half of this period (to January 15, 1938) is granted with the understanding that this is the complete remuneration for the period and without pay for the second half. On motion of Mr* Daane, seconded by Mr. Erody, it was voted to approve items 20 and 21. Leave for Margaret Bohn I 22. Request of Miss Margaret Bohn, secretary to Director Gardner, that she be granted leave without pay for two and one-half weeks during the month of June, so that she may make a European trip. Mileage allowance on one car to Kansas City, Missouri, so that members of the Home Econ omics teaching staff may attend meetings of the American Home Economics Association, June 20 to 26. 2.. Expenses will be charged to Extension funds. 3. Full expenses to St. Paul, Minnesota, for Director R. J. Baldwin, so that he may attend a Midwest Earm Bureau Training School to be held July 25 to 29. 4. Full expenses to Atlantic City for Dr. I* F. Huddleson, so that he may accompany an ex hibit to be displayed before the American Medical Association, which meets June 7 to 11. Expenses may be charged to the Rackham Fund. 5. Mileage on one car from Chatham to Duluth, Minnesota, so that Mr. J. G. Wells may attend an Extension conference called for June 13 to 16. Expenses will be paid from Extension funds. Kettunen on a trip to Washington for the National 4-H Club Encampment (transportation will be paid from Michigan State Fair funds). Miss Bates and Mr- Kettunen will accompany Michigan delegates to the encampment. On motion of Mr. Brody, seconded by Mrs. Wilson, it was voted to approve the travel requests. PRESIDENT'S REPORTS 1, Acceptance for the Board of a $1750.00 industrial graduate fellowship in fungicide research offered by the Sherwin-Williams Company, to be administered jointly by the sections of Botany and Horticulture, Acceptance entailed the following staff changes: Acceptance cf Sherwin Williams fellowship 1. Transfer of Mr. Colin B. Robertson, half-time graduate assistant, in Botany, to the Sherwin-Williams Industrial Fellowship, effective May 1st at the rate of $1200.00 per year (twelve months* basis). 2. Appointment of Ellis J. Airola as quarter-time graduate assistant in Botany for the months of May and June, replacing Mr. Robertson at the rate of $30.00 per month. 2. Approval of mileage allowance ($11.75) on one car to Toledo, Ohio, so that Home Economics staff Travel members might attend meetings of the Western Arts Association, April 14 to 17. 3. Approval of expense account totalling $103.25 (from Michigan Crop Improvement Association funds) incurred by Mr. H. C. Moore on a trip to Wharton, Texas, during April. Mr. Moore at that time made disease readings and inspected fields planted previously with Michigan certified seed potatoes. 4. Authorization of mileage expense on one car to Chicago, so that members of the Department of Modern Languages might attend meetings of the National Federation of Modern Language teachers May 7 and 8. 5. Authorization of full expenses to Chicago for Director Gardner, so that he might attend a meeting of Experiment Station directors called for May 14 and 15. This replaces previous authorization granted by the Board for a meeting which afterwards was cancelled. 6. Approval of expense account ($38.25) incurred by Miss Helen Larmore on a trip to East Lansing from Minneapolis, requested by the Extension office in connection with a Home Furnishing Specialist opening. 7. Approval of the following transfers of Extension funds: $4000.00 from Extension State Reserve to Extension State Information Service 1000.00 from Extension State Reserve to State Offset Soils. 1000.00 from Extension State Reserve to State Offset Farm Crops. 500.00 from State Offset Home Demonstration Agents to State Offset Home Furnishing 250.00 From Extension State Reserve to State Offset Forestry. On motion of Mr. Brody, seconded by Mr* Daane, it was voted to approve the President's Reports. MISCELLANEOUS 1. Recommendation that the College act again as host at the annual Patriarchs* Club luncheon, to be held on Alumni Day, Saturday, June 12. On motion of Mrs. Wilson, seconded by Mr. Daane, it was voted to approve the above recommendation. 2. Presentation of a committee report recommending the establishment of a Conservation Institute at Michigan State College. On motion of Mr, Daane, seconded by Mr. Eerkey, it was voted to approve the above recommendation and establish a Conservation Institute immediately* 3. Appointment of Mr. !• F. Schneider as Research Assistant in Land Use at a salary of $3,000 per year, effective June 1, 1937. This appointment is in connection with the Conservation Instituta 4. On motion of Mrs. Wilson, seconded by Mr* Daane, it was voted to approve the building of an addition to. the Stores for laundry purposes and to award the contract to the Qristman Company for con struction, at a figure of $18,565 - the Buildings and Grounds Department to take care of heating, plumbing and electrical services at a figure of §6860. 5. Request of Forestry Club to erect a small bronze tablet to commemorate the planting of the Huntington elm by the late President Theodore Roosevelt on May 31, 1907. No expense other than that incurred by the Forestry Club and the labor involved in the Forestry Department moving a small stone to the site. On motion of Mr. Berkeys seconded by -Mr. Downing, it was voted to approve the above request. 6. Communication from the Athletic Council through Director Young requesting that the Buildings and Grounds Department assume the responsibility for the upkeep of the knock-down bleachers. On motion of Mr. Daane, seconded by ^r. Brody, it was voted to approve the request of the Athletic Council. 7. A report was presented by the Secretary covering the proposed use of the Womans Building and shifts in locations of departments in various buildings on the campus. On motion of ^r# Daane, seconded by Mr* Downing, it was voted to approve the tentative plans as presented for remodelling the Womans Building. 8. The February meeting of the Board took the following action: The Kellogg Bird Sanctuary is in need of a permanent development plan providing for a long time landscaping, building location, drive and walk layout, etc. On motion of Mr. Brody, seconded by Mrs. Wilson, it was voted to approve the above item.
